Concrete Base Panels (Gravel Boards)
A premium fence panel is an investment, and the biggest threat to that investment is ground-level moisture. At Hardman and Cain Ltd, we provide high-density concrete base panels—commonly known as gravel boards—designed to act as a protective shield between your timber and the damp earth. By elevating your fence panels off the soil, our base panels prevent "wicking" (where wood sucks up ground water), effectively doubling the lifespan of your fencing. Rot starts at the bottom, but with a Hardman and Cain concrete base, it never gets a foot in the door.

The Hardman and Cain Specification
Our base panels aren’t just blocks of stone; they are engineered components. We use a steel-reinforced vibrated concrete process. This vibration technique during casting ensures that all air pockets are removed, resulting in a panel that is incredibly dense and resistant to “spalling” (cracking during a deep frost).
Standard Width: 6ft (1.83m) – designed to fit perfectly into our slotted concrete posts.
Standard Heights: Available in 6-inch (150mm) and 12-inch (300mm) options.
Reinforcement: Every panel contains internal steel tension bars to prevent snapping under pressure or ground movement.
